Library
A beloved place where the joy of reading takes center stage
Library
At the Dutch School, the joy of reading is central. We believe it is important that every child discovers the magic of stories, not only to learn language, but most of all to enjoy reading itself.
Because there is no Dutch library around the corner in Kenya, we cherish our own extensive collection of Dutch-language children's books, supplemented with informative titles and a fine selection of English books. The latter are used during English lessons and to further encourage reading at home. Every year we expand our library with new, current books, so there is always something inspiring to discover.
The library is a beloved place in our school. Here children learn not only to read, but also to take care of their books. With their own canvas library bag, they choose new books every week, thanks to our dedicated 'library parents' who keep everything running smoothly.
Throughout the year, we highlight various themes and book genres. A highlight is the Children's Book Week in October, during which the whole school buzzes with stories, reading aloud, and creative book activities for two weeks.
Our library brings not only children but also parents closer to the joy of reading; an invitation to keep discovering, browsing, and enjoying the world that books open up together.
