Our Approach
A balanced bilingual education program with IEYC, IPC, Dutch core objectives, and English language lessons
The Best of Both Systems
Our curriculum combines the strengths of the Dutch educational system with the internationally recognized IEYC and IPC. This ensures broad, balanced development of every child.
Dutch Curriculum
The core of our education is based on Dutch core objectives and reference levels.
Dutch Language
Reading, writing, speaking, and listening according to Dutch standards.
Mathematics
Mathematical skills and problem-solving thinking.
Reading Comprehension
Development of reading strategies and text understanding.
IEYC (Early Years)
For our youngest learners, we use the International Early Years Curriculum.
IPC (Primary Curriculum)
The International Primary Curriculum offers thematic, inquiry-based learning.
English Lessons
Language connects, opens worlds, and brings people closer together, and that is exactly what we want to achieve at the Dutch School with our bilingual education.
We offer all students from groups 3-8 English language lessons twice a week, taught by a native English speaker. In these lessons, listening, speaking, reading, and writing come together in a lively and meaningful way.
We use the Pearson Now I Know method, combined with the Bilingual Primary Education learning line for English, with which we build strong communicative skills and a solid grammatical foundation. Our ambitions are high: many students achieve, by the end of group 8, an English language level comparable to HAVO 4 in the Netherlands. That ensures a smooth transition to international education, which a large portion of our students continue after completing primary school.
Within our IEYC/IPC lessons, English is also used as the language of instruction. This helps students learn to use the language naturally across diverse subject areas, from science to art and society. At the same time, Dutch remains firmly anchored in our curriculum, so students learn to switch between languages and strengthen their metalinguistic awareness.
In addition to Dutch and English, students get the chance to discover other languages. In our Language Club, we offer French and Kiswahili, languages that connect with both our students' backgrounds and our international and local environment in Kenya.
This way, our students grow step by step into confident, multilingual global citizens who feel at home in multiple languages and cultures.
