Events
Dutch and Flemish traditions and international celebrations
A Year Full of Events
At the Dutch School we celebrate both Dutch and Flemish traditions and international holidays. These events strengthen our community and connect children with their own cultural background and that of their classmates.
Traditions
Sinterklaas
In late November / early December the whole school celebrates Sinterklaas with songs, surprises, and pepernoten. The weeks beforehand are also dedicated to the build-up in the classroom.
Koningsspelen and Orange Party
Every year the school takes part in the Koningsspelen, an active sports day. Around King's Day we also organize an orange party with games, a flea market, and Dutch gezelligheid.
Belgian Day
In November we celebrate our annual Belgian Day at school. Students learn more about Belgium, get to know Belgian traditions, and enjoy typical treats and fun activities together. A lovely way to experience culture and celebrate together.
Christmas Celebration
A joint Christmas celebration with performances by the children.
End-of-Year Musical
Celebrating the end of the school year with a musical and a farewell to group 8 and other departing students.
Theme Weeks
Children's Book Week
During the National Children's Book Week the whole school is dedicated to the joy of reading and stories. Around the annual theme we organize activities involving books, reading aloud, and creative language use, so that students discover how fun and inspiring reading can be.
Spring Buzz Week
During the Week of Spring Buzz we give age-appropriate and respectful attention to themes such as relationships, resilience, boundaries, feelings, and learning to understand yourself and others. This supports students' social-emotional development and contributes to a safe and open school culture.
Neurodiversity Week
During Neurodiversity Week we celebrate the different ways people think, learn, and experience the world. Students discover that differences are valuable and learn to look at themselves and others with curiosity, understanding, and respect.
World Religions Week
During World Religions Week students get to know various world religions and worldviews. By exploring together, asking questions, and discovering similarities and differences, we encourage respect, openness, and global citizenship.
Traffic Week
During Traffic Week students work on traffic skills and traffic awareness in an active, hands-on way. With games, assignments, and their own bike or other wheels, they learn to apply traffic rules and take part safely in traffic.
Events Calendar
The full events calendar is shared at the beginning of each school year. Parents receive timely invitations for all events.
